The welcome evening for Meetings Africa 2016 hosted buyers and international media was the platform for the launch of the new African Society of Association Executives’ (AfSAE) HQ.
The 11th edition of the show, run by South Africa Tourism, opens at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, 22 February.
The head of South Africa’s National Convention Bureau, Amanda Kotze-Nhlapo, welcomed the group to the opening event at SAB World of Beer museum, where VIP guests included SA deputy minister of tourism Tokozile Xasa and ICCA president Nina Freysen-Pretorius.
“We are not looking to just grow SA tourism, we also want to advance Africa,” the deputy minister told the audience.
Simphiwe Ngwenya, CEO of VisitGuateng province, host region to the event at Sandton, also welcomed the guests and emphasised the need to attract more association meetings to the country.
SA Tourism acting CEO Sthembiso Dlamini described the AfSAE new offices as representing “a huge leap forward in partnerships”.
“We are advancing Africa together,” she added.
Meetings Africa 2016 runs until 24 February.
